Picnic at Hanging Rock: A Sociological Interpretation of Two Film Adaptations of Joan Lindsay’s Novel

The article offers a comparative analysis of two film adaptations Joan Lindsay’s Picnic at Hanging Rock created different times. All three artistic forms—the novel, the film, and television series—are considered within methodological framework narrative analysis, sociology visual, social semiotics. This allows us to compare interpretive schemes used in versions as indicators changes taking place society: its system, norms, values. 1975 adaptation reproduces relations norms early twentieth century Australian white society described novel. Although storylines are cut, motifs main oppositions remain unchanged. mini-series screen (2018) transforms plot introduces modernized relevant for time making series, gives new interpretation characters.
